Hi! Thanks for reaching out about your Folder Lock issue after resetting Windows 10 Pro. I want to understand more so I can help you best. When you say you're unable to access your lockers, do you get any error messages when you try to open them? Also, did you reinstall Folder Lock 7.9 after the reset? And are you using the same user account as before?

Often after a Windows reset, some Folder Lock settings or encryption keys might not be intact, which can cause access problems. Meanwhile, I can walk you through some steps:

1. Reinstall Folder Lock 7.9: If you haven't reinstalled it yet, please download and install the same version to ensure compatibility with your saved lockers.

2. Open Folder Lock and try to unlock lockers: Use your master password to unlock the lockers as usual.

3. Check User Account: Make sure you're logged in to the same Windows user profile where Folder Lock was originally set up because user-specific encryption keys may be tied to the account.

4. Run Folder Lock as Administrator: Right-click the Folder Lock shortcut and select “Run as administrator” to give it full permissions to access lockers.

5. Check for Locked Folder File Availability: Confirm that the locker files (.flock or similar) are still present on your drive and were not wiped out during reset.

Please let me know which of these you have tried so far and any specific errors you see. That will help me guide you properly or suggest recovery options if needed.

I have done everything you say. My files are all .flkb files and they are still on my drives. The process just hangs (with a sandglass) forever when I try to access lockers. No error messages are shown.

Thank you for the detailed info—it’s very helpful to know the files are .flkb and that the Folder Lock process hangs without error. Since you have already tried running as administrator, confirmed the files exist, and reinstalled the software, the hanging suggests Folder Lock may be struggling to decrypt or mount these lockers properly after the reset.

Here are a few focused steps to try next:

1. Check for Corruption of Locker Files (.flkb)
Sometimes after a system reset or unexpected shutdown, encrypted locker files can get partially corrupted. This corruption can cause the software to hang while trying to access them. Try copying a .flkb file to another location (like your desktop) and then attempt to open it via Folder Lock. If it still hangs, the file might be damaged.

2. Temporarily Disable Antivirus or Security Software
Occasionally, security software interferes with Folder Lock’s file access. Temporarily disable any antivirus or Windows Defender real-time protection, then try opening a locker to see if that clears the hang.

3. Check Folder Lock Version Compatibility
Verify that your Folder Lock 7.9 version is fully compatible with your Windows 10 Pro build. If your Windows version recently updated, consider updating Folder Lock to the latest version or reinstalling 7.9 using the installer downloaded fresh from the official site to avoid corrupt installations.

4. Run Folder Lock in Compatibility Mode
Right-click the Folder Lock executable -> Properties -> Compatibility tab -> Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 7 or 8. This sometimes helps apps designed for older Windows versions work better.

5. Collect Software Logs for Diagnosis
Folder Lock may generate logs that could help diagnose if some system or file-level error is causing the hang during unlocking. Check Folder Lock’s installation folder for any log files or check if there's an option in settings to enable logging.

If these steps don’t resolve the hanging, it’s possible the .flkb locker files themselves have corruption that can’t be resolved through standard means. In that case, the last resort is reaching out to Folder Lock’s support ([email protected]) with sample problematic files if possible—they might have proprietary recovery tools.

Would you like me to guide you through running Folder Lock in compatibility mode or checking antivirus interference next? Or do you prefer detailed instructions on checking for file corruption? Let me know!

What are common .flkb file issues in Folder Lock?

Thanks for your question about common issues with .flkb files in Folder Lock. Here’s what I found to help explain the typical problems users encounter with these files:

1. File Corruption After System Changes
.flkb files are the encrypted locker files used by Folder Lock to securely store your protected data. If Windows is reset or there’s an unexpected shutdown, these files can sometimes become corrupted or partially damaged. When corrupted, Folder Lock may hang or fail to open the lockers properly, without showing error messages. This might be why your process gets stuck trying to access them.

2. Dependency on Folder Lock Software and Windows Environment
The .flkb files rely on Folder Lock’s kernel-level filtering system to decrypt and show contents. If Folder Lock is not installed correctly, or if system permissions, user accounts, or Windows versions don’t match the original setup, the files won’t unlock properly.

3. Access Problems Due to Security Software Conflicts
Sometimes, antivirus or Windows Defender can interfere with the functioning of Folder Lock, blocking it from reading or modifying .flkb files, resulting in hangs or freezes.

4. No Direct Manual Access
These files cannot be opened or manually edited outside Folder Lock. If you lose the master password or the files become damaged, there’s no simple way to recover the data, making backups essential.

5. Locker Files May Appear but Content Is Inaccessible
After some system events, the locker file (.flkb) might remain visible on the drive, but Folder Lock cannot mount or open it, which can cause the app to freeze or remain unresponsive during the unlock attempt.

If you want, I can guide you with troubleshooting steps focused on verifying file integrity, checking antivirus interference, or using compatibility settings to try to recover your lockers. Also, backing up your .flkb files before further attempts is advisable to prevent data loss.

Would you like me to help with specific troubleshooting or recovery advice based on these common issues?

You can also see more context here about deleting or managing .flkb files, but unfortunately manual recovery options are very limited without Folder Lock itself1 2.
